Dove la Murgia degrada, si riscontra la Valle d’Itria, un cuscinetto di verde a metà strada tra Adriatico e Jonio e su questa pianura, circondata da piccole alture, si affaccia Locorotondo. Sorge linda e silente sulla sommità di un colle che cinge gli ultimi contrafforti murgiani del Barese.
Armoniosamente tondeggiante come il toponimo stesso suggerisce, Locorotondo deve il suo nome alla morfologia assunta dal primo centro abitato, sorto attorno al mille.
Le prime casupole di un villaggio composto da agricoltori furono edificate su un altopiano attrezzato, addossate le une alle altre, a pianta circolare, quasi a voler cingere a corona quella terra strappata a boschi di querce e fragni per renderla coltivabile e fertile.

Welcome to Locorotondo
Where the Murgia slopes down, we find the Valle d’Itria, a buffer of green halfway between the Adriatic and Ionian seas, and on this plain, surrounded by small rises, overlooks Locorotondo. It rises neatly and silently on the top of a hill that encircles the last Murgia foothills of Barese.
Harmoniously rounded as the place name itself suggests, Locorotondo owes its name to the morphology assumed by the first town, which arose around 1000.
The first hovels of a village composed of farmers were built on a well-equipped plateau, leaning against each other, circular in plan, as if to encircle as a crown that land wrested from oak and ash forests to make it arable and fertile.
